AACA INTERNSHIPS
AACA LEGACY INTERNSHIP PROGRAM for students
Alaska has traditionally exported talent and expertise to the lower 48, especially after individuals have gained experience in Alaska. We are the training ground for carriers based outside Alaska. Our mentorship program will endeavor to attract local individuals with the expectation that they will have a long and rewarding career in aviation, at home serving the residents of Alaska. This program has tremendous opportunity within specific fields of student’s own interests -- management, accounting, information technology, pilots, aircraft or ground service equipment maintenance, customer service, and ramp operations. The Alaska Air Carriers Association (AACA) Board of Directors is committed to the development of youth for service in the Alaskan aviation industry and the provision of opportunities to make this possible.
AACA MEMBERS
AVIATION COMPANY INVOLVMENT
Would you be willing to employ an Alaskan youth during the summer or part-time during the school year? Would you or a member of your staff be willing to mentor a youth with aptitude for aviation service? Opportunities are needed in customer service, records, ground handling, parts, maintenance and operations.
AACA will facilitate the placement of youth into employment with carriers or industries serving the aviation community. To meet this goal, we are moving forward in the development of our Aviation Mentorship Program within the Legacy Initiative, and are seeking partners to help develop aviators.
AACA will help you identify potential tasks, develop a job description, and develop measurable goals for the mentorship. In addition, we will refer youth that could benefit from placement with your company.
We all recognize that there are continuing needs for aviation professionals to serve in rural Alaska, and finding qualified employees who will remain with employers is a problem. YOU can be part of the solution to both these challenges, by being willing to guide an interested young person. Several Build-A-Plane and scholarship programs throughout Alaska are stimulating interest in aviation, and Alaska’s youth need adults who can help them make the transition into full time employment. What can you offer?
This is an excellent opportunity for future employers to identify stellar candidates and pre-qualify them for full time employment, as well as an opportunity for youth to perfect skills employers need in the workplace.
Alaskan operators are willing to assist with part-time, seasonal employment for individuals attending college or trade schools. We will only require that regional school districts assist by identifying students with an interest in aviation who have the ability and aptitude to succeed. Air carriers would then interview students, just as they would for any applicant.
